Happy Hallo-Ring!

Hey everyone- today is Halloween and I decided to make today's nail art inspired by the scariest movie I've ever allowed myself to watch.  This movie might not be that frightening to regular horror film buffs, but since I don't purposefully watch many films known for their high rating on the fright meter, this one is the top contender for length of time it messed me up.  That doesn't count the film Jaws, because I watched it when I was maybe 5 and have a legitimate fear of water because of that little sharkie, but it's not really in the Halloween category for me.  The film represented in these nails is The Ring.  I saw this movie, in the theater, on this night, 11 years ago and I don't think I've been back to the box office for a horror/suspense thriller since.  There's something about being in a dark theater with strangers and a huge screen and surround sound that really makes a movie scary.  I prefer to watch a movie that I know will be scary in a place I can turn the sound way down to eliminate at least one sense from the shock overload.  If you've seen the movie you'll understand why I made these nails slightly blurry and gritty.  Here's the look:

I started with a base polish Dark Navy by e.l.f.  This made a really great backdrop because it wasn't quite as empty of color as a black base would have made, but it was nearly.  The images from left to right are of Samara, the well, the ring and the tv screen covered in static.  Here is the base polish, one coat on its own:

I hope you enjoyed this look.  Maybe enjoyed isn't the right word...I don't enjoy the images lol but hopefully they conveyed what I meant for them too.  Have you seen this film? Did it frightened you as it did me?  Were you surprised to learn what the ring really was?  What is the most impressionable film on your fears? That's going to be it for today.  Hope you and your youngsters are safe tonight!  See you back tomorrow.

Weekly Wrap-Up 10/30/2013

Hello loves.  I know I'm getting this up late tonight but I was waiting to get home from the Ward Halloween party so I could put up pics of the kids in their Halloween costumes.  I'll get right to it- and let Missy Bee show/tell you what we've been up to this week:

 We've been really artsy,

 and cutesy,

and just chillin with Midnight even though she's scared of me for pulling her tail too many times,

 and I'm snuggly

 and just plain awesome...

 and snuggly again,

and stylin' with the one shoe-on look

Then there are my brothers- who do this at the store instead of help me and Mom shop

And Halloween is tomorrow, but tonight we had a big party and I had my first time trick-or-treating!

Here's my puppy-dog brother

and my skeleton "emperor of death" brother

and ME!!- Minnie Mouse!

And one of all of us ready to go get our Halloween on!

Thanks for stopping by everyone!  I hope your week was as awesome as ours was and we'll see you back next week!  Hugs and kisses to all; stay safe and well and we love you all!

Brains!!!!

Hey everyone.  Happy Tuesday- only two more days til Halloween!! Since on Wednesdays I do weekly photo recaps this is my second-to-last spooky mani for the year and I think this is my favorite so far...but who knows what I'll come up with for Thursday...no pressure, self.  We have zombies today!!!  Do you like zombies?  I like mildly-scary zombies but the 1968 Night of the Living Dead scared the pants off of me for years and years after I first saw it as a child.  "They're coming to get your Barbara," will be forever burned in my brain- even though that first zombie they encounter is not covered in blood with his face half eaten away as they makeup zombies in today's films, that scene is so eerie.  If you don't know what I mean- google it. Here's what I came up with today:

Don't know if I necessarily captured the 1968 original make-me-wet-my-pants-with-fright zombie, but it pretty much captures how I feel about zombies- they're soulless brain-munching scary guys that are coming to get me!!  The base polish I used for this look is e.l.f Mint Cream which ended up being just perfect for this kind of dusty dead-green base I was looking for.  Here it is at two coats:
I seriously like the cream formula from this brand.  You might have noticed I used an e.l.f. polish for my deadly manicure from yesterday as well...hmm- maybe they have dead chic down.  But ya, I should think about picking up some more heh heh cuz I don't have enough nail polish.  The rest of the detailing for the look was done with acrylic paints and if you've never tried that for your nail art before- they are heaven-sent. Just remember to thin them down if you're doing very detailed work- and thin down your brush too!  I hope you enjoyed this look and I didn't scare you too much! Just enough, muahahaha.  See you back tomorrow for my weekly wrap-up, xoxo.

Grim and Girly

Hello all my nail art lovers out there!  Welcome to one of our last days for Halloween nail art this year! This has been a blast exploring the dark(but still cute) side and I hope you've been enjoying it too.  Today's look is all about the grim reaper, but she's a girl grim reaper.  Here's the look:

As you can see, this rockin diva of the underworld has got her bottle blonde locks poking out, but her scythe menacingly warns us that she's still dangerous.  This color from e.l.f. called Lilac seemed the perfect gray purple to be the backdrop of this look because it says girly meets undead :)  I hope you liked this look as much as I liked creating it.  Here is e.l.f. Lilac, two coats on its own:
This was easy to apply and could have been worn with just one coat.  I'm liking their formula.  Well I'll see you back tomorrow my fabulous darlings!

Cara-melt in Your Mouth

Howdy Do Everybody!  Happy Sunday to you all :)  I hope you're enjoying this holiday season and that my daily nail art is helping you get in the spirit.  Today I have another somewhat festive look for you because I never really see these around except for this time of year.  This is my take on the caramel or candy apple:

I have granny smith, golden delicious and fuji, gala, or any red apple you can find, because we don't discriminate on this site :)  Which is your favorite?  For caramel apples, there's something to be said for a tart green apple, isn't there?  However, you know, I rarely have eaten a caramel apple over the years because they are just too messy and get stuck in my teeth, but they sure are a beautiful site during the season because they signify cool weather, joyful and lighthearted attitudes and tradition.  I'm glad you stopped by today and I'll see you back tomorrow!  Have a good one.

Saturday Random Swatching 10/26/2013

Hey ya'll!  Are you ready for some swatches?  Let's see which ones make the grade this week.

China Glaze Hot Lava Love is a shimmer red on the pinky side.  I really liked this one- it's flattering on the nails and the formula was great.  Definitely needs two coats to get it opaque.  This might be from their base line because I couldn't find a collection it belonged to.  A

This one was a surprise love for me.  It looked so bland in the bottle, but it was deliciously sweet and it applied nicely in two coats.  This is Barielle Lotsa Love and yes those are really my nails...lol.  Usually I have a break on at least one nail before they get this long.  I believe this bottle came in a set of 5 or 6 polishes at Marshalls for about 6 bucks.  A

Look at this juicy orange shimmer that is Spoiled Orange You Glad.  So vibrant and if you like orange polishes this will really delight you because this polish is only two bucks at CVS and often they are buy one get one free or half off!  This is two coats, easy to apply and no staining.  A

I didn't have a yellow polish to show you this week, but I'm using OPI Sit Under the Apple Tree to represent because it is a yellow green polish with tons of yellow shimmer.  This color is very pleasing in general, perhaps not so much on the nail because this is three coats and still not opaque.  However if that doesn't really bother you, then you might really like this one because honestly I have nothing like it in my collection so it might fill that space in yours.  B because of the opacity.

This color should be my featured polish this week, but it was barely beat out.  This is Ulta Envy and look at how luxe that deep green shimmer/frost is!  Wow- this shade is going to be perfection this winter and it makes for very vibrant nail art.  Simply love this shade.  Honestly- the Ulta polishes are some of my favorite for formula consistency across the board and sometimes you can find them for just two bucks.  Can you tell I'm a bargain polish collector?  Two perfect coats: A

Say hello to Wet n Wild Shine Listening to Blue Reed.  This isn't quite opaque at two coats, but otherwise I really like it.  I found it in their Pop Art Craze collection, but it was after my Kmart already put all those products on clearance for 50 cents...but then I found it later again at a CVS for full price(a dollar- gasp!) So you might still find these shades around- which include a lighter blue, a dusty purple, a few greens- all super bright.  A-

This little beauty is Nicole by OPI Purple Yourself Together which was a Spring 2012 Target exclusive that I guess I found in a sale bin together, but I just love it because it combines purple and gold/yellow which are two of my faves that you rarely see paired!  This isn't super super opaque at two coats, but I don't mind because I love the shade so much!  A

As for the neutral color this week, we have Sinful Colors Nude...which is really caramel for a nude, but I still enjoy the shade.  I wish I could say this formula was perfection, but sometimes it is hit and miss for this brand(more often hit).  This is two coats and as you can see it's a bit thick.  What do you think of this shade? I think it could be a love/hate fine line kind of color.  B because I love a great nude, and I just don't reach for this one compared to some others.

Our glitter polish this week comes from Avon's small glitter collection and it's called Sparkling Gold.  I have it at two coats here, layered over Sinful Colors Beautiful Girl.  I usually don't prefer one-dimensional glitters(all the same size and color) but this one really is nice for it's delicate and beautiful simplicity.  A

Ok, top look this week is NYC Precious Peacock layered over Orly Black Vinyl.  I was slightly disappointed with this polish when I had it on it's own because it appeared very weak out of the bottle, and then it dawned on me to layer it over black and KAPOW!  I am in love :)  AND the best part is this bottle was on the shelf at one dollar.  If that was a sale price- they can't retail for any more than 2 bucks.  This is very similar to the Ulta shade, you'll notice, but it's more teal than green.  Just perfection- two coats over one of black.  A+

Which of these little puppies was your favorite polish of the week?  Do you have a new favorite find you added to your collection this week that I haven't mentioned?  Tell me in the comments below so I can check it out!  Well that's it for this week.  Hope you're happy and well and I'll see you back tomorrow for another Halloween design.  Hint- it's something sticky!

Sunrise Cemetery

Hello Lovelies :)  One of the spookiest things out there is the dreaded cemetery at night.  I put a little twist on it for you today to give this silhouette a little hope.  Here is the cemetery at sunrise, so if you've made it to see this view you're probably going to be all right!  All the ghosts and ghouls are going back down to rest- forced back by the day.  Here's the look:

I used China Glaze Happy Go Lucky as the base and then sponged with it and Jordana Sweet Orange for the gradient.  The detailing is done with black acrylic.  Here is Happy Go Lucky at two coats:
I like this banana yellow cream's shade, but the formula was a headache.  Gloopy and difficult to maneuver across the nail- it's the nail artist's nightmare right behind monstrously staining polishes.  I hope you enjoyed this look today and that you're really starting to get geared up for the holiday.  Have a lovely evening and I'll see you back tomorrow for random swatching!

Trick or Treat Thursday

Hello Reader :) I have another Halloween manicure for you today.  It features some traditional holiday colors and the kids' favorite item- the CANDY!  Here's the look:

The colors I used for this mani are Jordana Sweet Orange, Sephora by OPI It's Totally Karma, and Domestic Goddess from the same brand.  The white polish Wet n' Wild French White Creme and the black and white detailing is done with acrylic paint.  Here is Jordana Sweet Orange, two coats, on its own and it is such a delicious sweet cream just as the name implies:

So glad you stopped by today.  Let me know what you think of my Halloween manicures thus far and if there's anything you'd like to see that you haven't yet.  Have a fabulous day and I'll see you back tomorrow!

Weekly Wrap-Up 10/23/13

It's Wednesday again- already!  We have been happy to get back into school after the Fall break and things seem to be back to normal again.  It's definitely getting chillier but Summer is trying to linger and we still have some warmth in the afternoons.  Can't believe Halloween is almost here which starts the avalanche of holidays!  This week was all about:

Bee getting everyone(especially Bear) to read to her

Helping brother with his homework

Snuggle time

Bug practicing his numbers

Actually catching all three in one place at one time!

Having the perfect accessory

Going to the Pumpkin Patch
Corn maze with Bug

Train Ride which we had to wait in line for at least 30 min for- but Bug wouldn't leave without it

Petting Zoo(of course I snapped this pic right after he stopped petting the goat...)

Bug found the pumpkin patch's version of the jumpy castle

Cuties

More cuties!

We Can't Stop...We Won't Stop...This is my pumpkin patch I can(or can not) leave when I want to

Pooped on the ride home

And no- you can not wear only that for Halloween :)

That rounds up our week.  So glad you stopped by to get caught up with our antics.  We love and miss all our friends and family far and wide.  Hope these pictures help you feel closer to us in some way.  Hugs and Kisses to all!
