Weekly Wrap-Up: 11/29/2012

Howdy Folks!  I could kick myself for forgetting to bring my camera to Bear's first cub scout pack meeting tonight.  He was all dressed up in his uniform and looked so so cute and proud to be in scouting.  He got his first belt award and is so excited to do much much more.  I hope the excitement doesn't wane any time soon.

Other than that- kids were just getting back into the swing of things...doing double homework for week of school missed during vacation- but all is well!  Here's what found it's way in front of the lens this week:

Little lady helping herself to the leftover Halloween candy.

This is the "oh you caught me" face

A better angle to view all her spoils.

Sometimes when I play peek-a-boo I get in over my head.

But boy, I love makin mommy laugh like that!

This pic doesn't show the two front teeth she's cutting right now on the top, but the three little lone ivories remind me that their neighbors are almost here.

My Grandmas are the best! They keep me dolled up in things like zebra print and hip hop tennies.

Workin' it

That's all for now folks.  I have a cute one of mr. bug and miss bee playin together but it's for mom's eyes only cuz mr. bug insists on wearing his birthday suit as often as he can get away with (whenever no one's looking).  So when I happen on a cute candid moment of the two of them eyeing up the same toy and snap a quick pic- you think he's got clothes on?  Don't bet on it.

Enjoy the rest of your week!

Tuesday Tutorial: Weave it Awone!

Ok so it's not officially tuesday anymore...but I had good excuses =p most of which are just due to being a mommy.  Anyway-once I finally had some quiet time to myself to try this look out it ended up bein a little tricky, so i had to factor a little trial and error in there.

Well here's the weaved nail art I will be walking you through tonight:

I found this cute design on a nail art tumblr on a handheld device, but when I went to look it up on my pc- no luck, but her website is amandadidit.com - gotta give the girl some cred.

Ok, first thing I learned was to go with a darker base color for this one- so go ahead and get your fastest drying black- this is Milani Black Swift. One coat is always fine with this polish.

Step 1:  After your base coat apply one-two coats of your base color.

Step 2:  Once that is dry take your contrasting color (i suggest another one-coater) I used Spoiled Cotton Mouth which is not a one-coater so also added to the time factor of this mani.  Paint three vertical stripes onto each nail.  Don't worry about the mess- you will clean that up after step 3.

Step 3:  Add four horizontal lines to each nail(my little pinky couldn't cut it).  I learned through trial and error not to try to use the polish's brush for this step- use a smaller detailing brush.  Take your clean-up brush and touch up around your nails.

Step 4:  Using your base color and your detailing brush add some lines in this pattern-using the little black boxes from above for guidance.

Step 5: Once you get the hang of the pattern you continue to work it out to the edges of the nail.  I also made every other nail the opposite weave of it's neighbor.  If this pattern is a little confusing to visualize on your nail at first- try drawing it on a piece of paper.  When you're all finished little artista- apply your top coat and et voila!

Hope you give this a try and let me know how it works out for you!

P.S. Have fun peeps!! That's what it's all about =D

Monday Mani: Distraction

I have another distracted mani- meaning I threw a number of techniques into one look because I just couldn't figure out what I wanted to do so I did them all.

The first thing I knew was that I wanted to use a gorgeous Zoya polish named Zuza which is a sea green lovely with a gold foil.  That is what I painted on my thumb, ring and pinky fingers.  On my index and middle fingers I used Sally Hansen Insta Dry Silver Sweep.  Next I took Silver Sweep and stamped on my ring finger.  Finally, using Maybelline Sea-quins I painted all of my pinky finger over Zuza, and I made a gradient on my thumb.  I kept this one on for a few days; it ended up so dainty and fun.

Thanks for reading =D

Saturday Swatch Spam: 11/24/12

Incoming: another ten shades straight to you.  You decide your line up- you decide what's hot and what's not and I'll give you my take on it.  As always, this is a thrifty girl's nail blog- so don't worry about any of these pretties putting a damper on your wallet :)  These are always 2 coats unless otherwise noted.

Red Velvet
Starting things off with red like we always do- red- the original va-va-voom for your nails.  This is Red Velvet from e.l.f.  I found this bottle in a holiday pack at Target and doesn't it's name ring true?  It is oh-so-suede and perfect for your festivities. A-

Dreamy
Ok, this one only got a B- from me- reason being: no pop.  You'd think with the pink/multiglitter glam this polish would pack more of a punch.  Dreamy by Pure Ice

9.0.2.1.Orange
Hello orange love!  9.0.2.1.Orange Wet n wild fast dry is fabulous.  Seen here with two coats layered over Red Velvet- I just felt like going out after I put it on.  What a fun name for a polish too- bonus! B+

Trendsetter
Look at this super quirky mustard-meets-the-army color.  Not only is the color so unexpected- they put shimmer in it!  China Glaze Trendsetter was such a fun surprise! B

Be-Leaf It or Not
Mmm frosty leafy green metallic makes me feel warm looking at it- what do you think?  Be-Leaf It or Not by Fingerpaints was another treasure among the clearance polishes.  Such a smooth talker- definite A.

Hot Spot
Blue polish lovers beware- this color is gorgeous!  See the subtle sparkle in with the deep navy/wannabe purple/right on the fence blue. Wowza, Hot Spot by Sinful Colors, another A.

2 Weeks Sober
While I am a purple girl and always have been- it's not because it looks bangin with my skin tone, but because the color gives me warm fuzzies.  So even though I'm more partial to blues and grays on my nails, this creamy beauty deserves some attention!  2 Weeks Sober from Spoiled is exactly what is so beautiful about purple- put in a bottle. A

Cougar Attack
I loved loved this polish.  Yummy chocolate jelly brown with copper glitter in its suspension.  This is three coats to achieve this level of opacity.  Aptly-named Cougar Attack from Spoiled is a fun and funky color you can wear to the office.  Solid A.

Big City Dazzle
Here we have my glitter offering this week.  Even though the glitters are all the same size in this polish, the colors did not disappoint.  Layered over NYC Sidewalkers, this is Big City Dazzle by the same brand.  I'd say B+

Blue-La-La
And finally my A+ color for the week.  By Nina Ultra Pro, Blue-La-La is a dusty cornflower blue cream that I just couldn't take my eyes off!  That's how I know I'm in love with a polish- when I find myself looking down at my nails all day and my mood lifts just from the color =D  Almost an Air force-blue- you will not be disappointed if you find place for this little puppy in your collection.

That's all she wrote folks- happy painting!

Wednesday Weekly Wrap-Up: 11/21/12

What a week!  It's been all about Miss Bee here still while it's been all about Bear and Bug at their dad's house.  Thanks to Granny Pam I have pics of the boys' adventures abroad :)  Here's what we did this week:

We modeled some new clothes

And of course it made us feel silly.

Then we started wondering about some of the faces daddy was making.

Ooh, that one was kinda scary.

Go back to the funny faces dad!

Ya like that :)

One shot of the edible little tootsies.

We loved on mom for a while

And at bedtime we made faces at daddy...mom was confused about what face we were doing.

But she'll do.

Now this is the good part! My favorite trick:

Where am I daddy??

Here I am!  Heh, pay attention dad; I'll give you another try.

Where am I??

Here I am!  That silly daddy falls for it every time =D

Big brothers were away in the snowy mountains.   Here they are at Bridal Veil Falls.

"Heh heh heh, where's that unsuspecting little brother of mine?"

You'd think they hadn't seen snow in a year...

Love that face gettin ready to blow out his dad's candles :)

If Grandma would just quit checkin on me I could get this tunnel under the fence finished...

When is NOT the perfect weather for popsicles?  Bet you can guess what my boys' answer is!

We had a ball this week and we hope you did too.  Thanks for reading and letting us close the mileage gap between us a little bit this way.
