Graceful Polish California Love Collection

Hey Loves.  I hope you all had a great weekend.  Some people around our house are starting to come down with the sniffles.  I hope you're all well and ready for a new work week.  Today we're looking at an indie polish brand I was sent for review.  One of my youtube subscribers approached me about her hand-mixed, 5 free, vegan, and cruelty-free collection of five polishes.  She's just getting her feet wet and wanted some feedback.  Grace works out of North Carolina but was born and raised in California and her first collection is called the California Love collection.  Each polish in the collection was inspired by something Grace loves about California.  Being a California native myself, I was eager to see what she came up with, so of course I said yes!  I am not being paid for this review, and all opinions are my own.  Let's get started:

I might as well start with my favorite!  First up is Alcatraz.  It's a very opaque gray with tons of silver shimmer.  You really only need one coat with this polish, but I've shown you two here. Basically this one applies like a dream.  I really didn't have any issues with any of the formula- but this one especially was a cake walk.  I wore it for a few day- which is a lot for me- and I had no chipping issues at all.  Perfect.

This dark teal luster with tons of silver glitter is called Big Sur.  You need 2-3 coats for opacity on this polish and I've shown you just two here as always.  I think it's a great color and the glitter makes it something special.

This light orchid is Cherry Blossom.  It's a lovely frost with holo, fuchsia, and silver glitters.  I can't wait to see what glitter combinations grace comes up with next.  She makes great choices.  This one also needs 2-3 coats and I've shown you two here.  This one wasn't my favorite, just because of the color but the formula's great.

There's another one-coater in the collection and it's this great copper metallic called Golden Gates. I've shown you two but you can get away with one.  I wasn't as fond of this one as I was the first polish I showed you, just because of personal preference concerning the frosty/metallic finish, but you may really love it because it applied just as easily as Alcatraz.

The last polish in the collection is Sunshine State.  It's a very yellow gold that has the same formula as the other polishes with glitter.  You probably need 2-3 coats but I've shown you just two here.  As you can see, this one has teal, silver, and green hexes with some very micro silver glitter as well. Such a great name for this polish.

I hope you saw something you liked here.  I applaud Grace for endeavoring to make her own polishes!  How exciting for her and I hope she keeps going!  If you'd like to visit the Graceful Polish Etsy shop, you can find that here.

Have a fabulous day, and please leave Grace some helpful feedback in the comments below.  See you back soon.

Saturday Random Swatchfest 10/25/2014

Welcome back polish peeps!  I hope you're all having a great day!  Today we're looking at ten random polishes from my untried polishes, per usual for Saturdays around here.  If you'd like to see my video review of these polishes, you can do so here:

Let's get into it!
Orly Mind's Eye is this dusty cranberry cream.  It's gets opaque-enough but it could probably be a little less streaky.  I do still enjoy the color, but I don't feel like it's one you need to run out and purchase right this moment.  B

Wet n' Wild Frosted Fuchsia is an oldie, but a goodie if you like pink.  This is definitely very shimmery- lots of purple shimmer.  For the price tag, this has a great formula.  You know I'm not a major pink fan, and for that reason, I give it a B.

FingerPaints Kitchy Tangerine is a very vibrant matte orange.  This one would probably look better top-coated but I've shown it to you as it naturally applies.  You definitely need two coats but at two it looks even enough.  If you are an orange-lover, you'll love this one.  As for me, I'm not sure how often I'll wear it except for Summer.  B

For gold/yellow, this is Nina Ultra Pro Gold Flake Top Coat.  I've shown it to you here on it's own, but I bet it looks great as a topper too!  This is two coats and it didn't get absolutely opaque, but I enjoy the color, really rich and regal.  B+

Pure Ice Home Run is this light sea green cream.  The formula was a little bit thick and wasn't as easy to apply as I wish it were, but for the price, which is under two dollars, it's pretty great.  B+

Now here's my first A of the day- this is Sinful Colors Miami Heat.  As you can see, this is a really gorgeous, lustrous royal blue.  On the first coat it's disappointing because it's sheer- but on the second coat, it's magic :)  As I've said before, Sinful knows how to do blues.

OPI Vesper is from the Bond Girls collection.  It's this very deep eggplant that is obviously textured and it has no shimmer or glitter.  I had to be careful with this lady and my cuticles, but other than that I really like it.  A-

This little random polish is Bongo Poppin' Bottles.  I picked up this gray, with blue and purple shimmer, at a Kmart like forever ago.  I'm not sure if they carry this brand anymore, but you can find some similar polishes to this one elsewhere so don't worry about it.  This is very sheer at one coat and just gets enough opacity at two coats to be passable, but the hue is so pleasant.  B

From last Halloween, this is China Glaze Boo-gie Down.  It combines black micro, hex, and bar glitters, copper and white hexes as well.  It's great- easy to apply in one coat and you don't have to mess around with glitter placement.  This is just one coat.  A

For my A+ polish of the week, this is Sparitual Intuition.  On the two fingers on the right, I've shown you two coats alone, and the two on the left is one coat over black.  The application of the black base was not the best- it's not Intuition's fault :)  I am so in love with the reflective blues and purples of this polish over a dark polish.  Ugh!

And there you have it- we are all done!  I hope you're having a great day!!  See you back next time.

Color Club Made in New York Live Application and Review

Hey friends!  I have another collection from Color Club for you today.  This time it's the Made in new York collection which is made up of 7 polishes- 3 are solids that I call lusters and the rest are shimmer toppers which look their best when applied over a solid.  If you'd like to see the live application video I did on my channel, you can do so here:

Let's look at some polish!
First up we have this GORGEOUS lustrous maroon called Apple of My Eye that I think is so flattering and intense.  This is two coats and even though I'm not crazy for reds, I truly loved this one!

This pink and gold shimmer topper is called Bright Lights Big City.  This wasn't my favorite out of the group, but I do think the concept is nice.  This is two coats over the polish we just looked at.

This lovely orange/bronze frost/luster is called Off Duty.  I think the color is pretty, but I didn't love it on myself that much.  This is two coats and while the formula was nice, it really wasn't one of my favorites, mostly just because of the color and finish.

The next topper in the collection is this pearl shimmer called Million Dollar Listing.  I'm not really sure this polish is worth picking up, just because it doesn't do much for the polishes I've put it over.  I think I'd rather just buy a shimmer polish than have to use two polishes to get this same effect.  Just my personal feelings :)

The final solid polish in the frost/luster finish is called Night at the Met.  I did like this one because I think the slate blue color is beautiful.  This is two coats but I think I'd rather if it didn't have this finish, but oh well :)

Over the color we just looked at, this pearl, blue, and pink topper is called Concrete Jungle.  This one does have a strong effect, but I actually didn't love it that much, unfortunately.  This is two coats.

As for my favorite of the collection, this is Lady Liberty.  As you can see, it has a very strong effect. It turned that slate gray into this gorgeous teal shimmer.  This is two coats.

I'd say if you were going to pick any up, I'd suggest Apple of My Eye, and Lady Liberty- the first and the last polishes I showed you.  I'm glad that you stopped by to hang out with me a bit today.  I hope you're having a good one and I'll see you back next time.

Saturday Random Swatchfest 10/18/2014

Happy Swatchfest Day everyone! :)  So glad you're here with me today.  We're going to look at ten random polishes from my "untried" bin and I'll tell you what I think about it.  If you'd like to see the video review of the polishes, you can find that here:

For red, we've got Orly Merlot Mist which is a frosty warm burgundy.  Not really my favorite, I have to admit but it did apply nicely in two coats.  B

OPI All That Razz-berry is our pink polish today.  This is a lovely medium pink that feels just a tad fuchsia to me.  The application was lovely and I had no issues getting this to opacity in two coats.  A

This lovely peachy pink is our orange polish today.  For the price, you really can't beat this one.  It's Pure Ice Happy Hour and it's smooth and creamy in two coats.  This one's a perfect example of why we don't need to be paying $10 plus per bottle of nail polish!  A

For yellow we've got Spoiled Mind Your Own Beeswax which is a really sunny yellow shimmer. Unfortunately, this one doesn't become opaque enough to be worth picking up.  I wish I could report better because it's such a budget-friendly brand, but I'd say pass on this one.  B-

China Glaze Grass is Lime Greener is this very vibrant, almost neon green pastel.  This one has kind of a funny formula which isn't my favorite.  It dries fast and so you have to hope it will level out ok at two coat, but when it does, it's lovely!  A-

Sinful Colors Rain Storm is a dusty navy one-coater.  I love this one so much and I've shown you two coats here, but ya it's a great go-to for Fall, or anytime if you love blue creams like I do!  A

For purple, we're looking at Nina Ultra Pro Purple Xing.  This is a plum jelly and it is packed with holographic glitter in many different sizes.  I needed two coats for this level of opacity.  A-

Revlon Sequin is a super vibrant silver metallic or perhaps foil.  You can get away with one coat but I've shown you two.  I think this line, Colorstay, is really nice but they are being clearanced many places so you can snag them rather inexpensively.  A

For my glitter polish today, I'm showing you China Glaze Don't Be a Flake.  It's comprised of bright turquoise, black, and rose holo hex glitters in a clear base.  I've shown you two coats here and I kind of had to work with it to get them placed on the nail.  I really feel kind of meh about this one. It's only ok.  B

My A+ polish of the week is OPI My Dogsled is a Hybrid.  It's an absolutely fabulous turquoise that leans green.  This is two smooth coats and I really feel like it's a must-have from the Nordic collection.

That's all I have for you today.  I hope you're well and I'll see you back next time.

Essie and China Glaze 2014 Breast Cancer Awareness

Hey loves.  Are you enjoying your October?  We are finally getting a bit of cool weather here and Halloween is quickly approaching.  October is special for another reason- it's the month we celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness and all those who are fighting/have fought this disease.  Essie and China Glaze both released collections this year for Breast Cancer Awareness and Tim decided to review them for my channel.  If you'd like to watch that review, you can do so here:

Let's start with Essie.  They put out a three piece collection.
First we have I Pink I Can which is a lovely ballet slipper pink.  This is a great two coater and it had a wonderful formula.  I really enjoyed it.

The one I enjoyed even more is Pink Happy.  This is a vibrant, powerful pink.  I feel like this polish most represents the cause that the polishes were created for.  It applies smoothly and easily in two coats and I had no formula issues.

The glitter topper they included is Pinking About You.  It's made up of pale pink matte glitter pieces in many sizes.  I thought it looked particularly lovely over Pink Happy.  This is two coats.

Moving on to the China Glaze collection, we have three matte polishes, the first of which is Carpe Diem.  This is a white with just the smallest drop of pink in it.  The formula was fine, I just didn't particularly love the color.  It was just ok.

This matte was lovelier.  It's called Life is Beautiful.  This had the same formula as the matte above.  The color is pleasant and if you enjoy matte polishes, this one is lovely for this month's celebration.

Make an Entrance is a lovely, vibrant pink, similar to the one in the Essie collection.  This one is slightly lighter, but in this collection it's the darkest.  It applies nicely in two coats and I thought it was great.

The medium pink has a crelly format but it got totally opaque at two coats, which I love.  It is called Rich and Famous and it's rather a generic pink.  Not my favorite pink for this month's celebration, but the formula was good.

The last matte they gave us is Sheer Bliss.  This one has no pink in it, but otherwise is just like the other mattes in the collection.  I didn't really care for it.  It looked a tad dingy on the nail.

I think the star of the collection is the lovely Strawberry Fields.  You can pick this one up at any time in the core collection that Sally Beauty Supply has, so this is nothing new, but the color is divine.  It's a warm pink because it has so much gorgeous gold shimmer!  I love it so much.  This one's a must-have.

That rounds out the collections I reviewed for October's Breast Cancer Awareness.  I need to make it a priority to have a mammogram and this review may have done it.  We all need to make it a priority and celebrate those in our lives who are bravely fighting.  I hope you're having a great day and that you found something here you liked.

Saturday Random Swatchfest 10/11/2014

Well, it's Sunday night, but I have this weekend's Swatchfest for you!  As you know, we look at 10 random polishes from my untried polishes.  If you'd like to see the video version of this review, you can find that here:

Let's get started!
For red we're starting out with FingerPaints Red-brandt which is a nice classic red that leans just a little bit berry and it has tons of shimmer.  I really thought this was gorgeous, but it was incredibly hard to remove!  Bleh!  For that reason I give this one a B-

This very light pink cream is Revlon Lilac Pastelle.  I have to admit, I didn't really love this one.  The formula wasn't that great and the color isn't very unique.  I've shown two coats here as with the rest. B-

For orange I have this very warm orange cream from China Glaze called V.  I feel like this shade of orange is more wearable for others.  The formula is great and I love this one.  A

From Maybelline Color Show I'm showing you Bold Gold.  This is a really powerful and warm gold metallic.  You can totally get away with just one coat here.  I think it's a great option if you need a gold polish in your life.  A

This interesting polish is Sinful Colors Curry Up.  The formula isn't perfection, but I think the color is cool.  It's kind of an alien green and it has lots of shimmer, including some orange specs.  A-

This gorgeous blue lustre polish is OPI Swimsuit...Nailed It.  Wow, this one is so divine, perfection in two coats.  I was so happy when this blue came into my life.  A

This super deep violet cream, one-coater is Color Club Nail-robi.  I've shown you two coats here per usual, but you really don't need more than one.  I feel like this one's a must-have for purple polish-lovers.  So easy to apply and I love that it looks almost-black.  A

For neutral I'm showing you Nina Ultra Pro Shooting Star.  This is a great two-coater and I love it when a glitter gets opaque on its own.  This is just packed with micro silver glitters and slightly larger silver hexes.  A

For the glitter selection, I've given you China Glaze Love Marilyn.  I had to do three coats for this swatch and it just barely reached enough opacity.  As you can see, this is micro red glitter and slightly larger red and silver glitter.  B

For my A+ polish of the week I'm sharing Sinful Shine I'm Blushing.  I appreciate it because it's one of my new favorite go-to neutrals.  It reaches a nice level of opacity in two coats and the formula is great.

And that's it!  I hope you've all been having a great week and I hope you found something you liked :)  Have a great day and I'll see you back next time!
