Revlon Gel Envy Review and Live Application

Hey guys :)  How many of you have been eyeing up this new gel-like polish from Revlon that hit stores this Summer?  I know I have, the colors and high shine look fabulous and so when Revlon was at 40% off last week at Rite Aid, I picked up 5 shades to give you(and me) a little sampling of the line.  If you would like to see this review in video format with live swatching, then you can do so here:

So, from what I can tell from the 5 polishes I picked up(and from a great review by Total Polish Junkie as well), most of these polishes are creams.  I picked up one that had surprise shimmer- yay, but for the most part they are delicious creams.  Let's go ahead and see what I got!

First off, I wanted to make sure to try their yellow polish.  Often times I use a yellow cream as a deciding factor if a brand has it's formula down pat.  If their yellow is nice and opaque in two coats then they get an A+ from me.  Well, just look at this baby!  This is Casino Lights and I had no application issues; it was easy and smooth in two coats. I love it and it's so bright and cheery.

Another great staple to try from a new brand or line is their neutral.  I find I gravitate to neutrals more and more lately.  I want to know they have a great formula I can rely on for all occasions.  This is two easy coats; it applied like a dream.  Say hello to Checkmate.

This gorgeous teal with the hidden shimmer is called Dealer's Choice.  Trying the teal polish from a line is also a no-brainer for me.  I want to know if they have great pigmented blues and greens.  This is very pigmented and unfortunately I had a little staining here, but it wasn't a deal-breaker.  I just love the color! You're looking at two coats.

This nice deep violet is called High Roller.  It could definitely use a good glossy top coat to give it just the right finish, but I've shown you here in its original form, as with the rest of the polishes.  this was practically a one-coater, intensely pigmented, and a great choice if you want something deep and vampy.

My favorite is this divine blue, that could also use a nice glossy top coat, called Wild Card.  Such a delicious blue, truly a one-coater.  I only did two for the sake of consistency, but you don't need it.  So easy to apply and I definitely recommend this one.

Now, a word on the Gel Envy claims.  They say you don't need a basecoat...I'd say that's hooey since some of them stain- and you should just get into the habit...ALWAYS wear a base coat.  You'll be glad you did down the line.  Also, they claim longer wear time.  I didn't have this on for the full time they claim you can go without chips, but it felt just like a regular polish to me, not how gel feels at all.  It began to look a little dull on the second day so maybe reapplying top coat every day will help with that?  But then again, now you've got a big pile of top coat going on after a few days lol.  Basically I think that polish companies are scamming us a little bit by charging higher prices with these "gel-like" polishes.  All-in-all I think I wouldn't pay extra just to get one of these gel-like polishes from Revlon or Sally Hansen for example, because you're pretty much paying more money because of the inclusion of the word gel in the name.  That is my opinion, you can let me know if you feel the same.  Overall I was very happy with this polish, I enjoyed every color immensely, but I don't think they warrant a higher price tag.  At Rite Aid these were marked at around $8.50 a bottle(before the 40% off sale).

I hope you're having a great day and let me know below if you've tried any of these and what your experiences have been.  I hope this helped you decide if you need any of these new Revlon polishes.  Have a great day and I'll see you back tomorrow!
