Tuesday Tutorial: Negative Space

Welcome back to my learning lab today for a little tutorial on negative space in your manicure.  You've probably seen the look around- something like this where alongside your polish choice you have natural nail:

You will start off with clean nails and paint a layer of base coat on each nail.

Next take your striping tape which you can find on Amazon for like 2 bucks for a package of 8-10 little rolls in all different colors- tape off the part of your nail that you don't want covered in your polish (ie-the negative space part of your manicure).

Using your polish of choice, cover the whole nail in one thick coat, including the taped-off portion.  It's ok if you get a little messy- you'll clean up later.

Then pull each piece of tape off from- pulling evenly from one side of the nail to the other and it will look something like this.

Continue by painting each nail in turn, and pulling the tape off from that nail- before you paint the next nail because you don't want the paint to dry too much before removing the tape. After you have done this with every nail let them dry for a few minutes and then finish with top coat.  If you don't wait long enough here then you will have streaking.  Clean up with some acetone and your paintbrush.  Your end result will look like this:

Hope you enjoyed this tutorial and that you try it at home!!
