Dress it Up: Orly Close Your Eyes

Hey Dolls, just featuring a beautiful shade today.  This is Orly Close Your Eyes and I love her.  Look at how she lets her inner beauty shine!  She is an almost duochrome, high shine lady who shares the red and purple family tree.

I swatched her the other day, and she needed some special attention paid to her, so I gave her a little nail art, but not too much to take away from her glory.  Using my dotting tool I placed three accent dots decreasing in size as they raise to the cuticle in Avon Honeydew Dazzle- a very pale mint shimmer.

Hope you're all having a wonderful Memorial Day as we all honor those who have given their lives to protect our country and our freedoms.  Tomorrow I will have a Memorial Day festive tutorial for you.  Love to you!

Dotting Skittles

Quick post today- I've tried out these colors combos a few times lately, and I loved them together- Forest Green from Avon, and Laugh My Art Off from Fingerpaints...then of course my dotting tool couldn't stand not being at the center of attention and she went crazy.  There's a different pattern on each nail because she just had to let loose- there was no containing her artistic freedom...and then she made me post this today as proof that I still love her.  I scolded her for crowding up my manicure, but I do still love and appreciate her.

Hope you're having a great holiday weekend surrounded by those you love and who love you.

Saturday Random Swatching: 5/25/2013

Hiya Stranger!  It's so nice to spend some time with you again this lovely Saturday.  Ten more shades for you today and I think some of them are rather worth taking a glance at. :)

Color Club Mamba is so stunning.  You can't overestimate a great, bright, in-your-face red.  This polish is so sultry and just perfection in it's high shine, two coat cream glory.  I love it and give it an A.

Revlon Demure is repping for the "orange" category today.  Not really orange, but this pinky/tan does almost lean toward a coral/orange feel.  I love it.  I thought it was going to look as boring on as it did in the bargain bin- but I was happily proved wrong!  It's a smooth and understated polish.  A.

Sinful Colors 24/7 is your almost neon-it's-so-bright, hot pink.  It's fantastic and opaque in two easy coats.  Sometimes you can't get that from your neons so I was impressed here.  It's also a stand-out polish for nail art and I featured it in my Summer Chic look a few weeks ago.  I think this is in their foundation collection- so you should be able to find it no matter what time of year you're looking for it.  A.

Kleancolor Salsa was ooh, not so nice.  I'm using up my "yellow" slot for this polish because I don't have a yellow shade to show you today, but it's not really in that family- it's a very light coral metallic/frost.  As you can see in the bottle shot- this polish was sent to me in a super cray condition- like it really wasn't mixed properly...I didn't get such a messy appearance on the nail, but still it wasn't so hot as I was hoping it would be.  Like I've mentioned in other posts- Kleancolor is a hit and miss brand.  Miss.  C.

L'oreal New Money was released this Spring 2013.  Wow, talk about vibrant!  Creamy, electric, and refreshing.  This is two coats, and it was almost a one-coater.  Gonna try stamping with this one soon.  A.

NYC Raindrop is so delightful.  I am a sucker for blue polishes anyway, but this one is just oh so sweet!  It's the perfect baby blue and look how smooth and creamy it is in two coats.  Love.  A.

OPI...Eurso Euro from their 2013 Euro Centrale collection.  Look at the deep mystery in this shade.  It is gorgeous, and not too dark to be still obviously purple.  Another bonus- you might think this one would stain, but I was happily surprised that it did not.  Gj OPI :)  Two coats of this crelly jewel deserves an A.

Wet n Wild Fastdry Silvivor is crazy pigmented!  This polish really packs a punch and stands out as a really fabulous silver metallic.  It is a little messy to remove, but you learn to expect that with these kinds of finishes, just like with a glitter polish.  A.

Sinful Colors Bombshell over NYC Apple Fizz has a barely-green shimmer base and is filled with multi-colored glitter of all the same size.  This really is a fun look, but considering that its sister polish In the Spotlight, released at the same time, is essentially the exact same polish, but with a slightly bluer base shimmer.  I preferred the look of In the Spotlight more, and so for that reason, this little bottle doesn't impress me all that much.  Not sure why they released both...oh well.  So thus this one receives a B- for its unoriginality.

Revlon Spice it Up has been calling for me to feature it for weeks now.  It is just plain decadent.  This red/bronze shimmer/suede two-coater is so sexy and I imagine Homer's Circe would be rockin' this polish :)  A+

The brands of polish can be found at the following locations:
Wet n Wild- Target, Kmart, Walmart, CVS, Rite Aid, Walgreens
Sally Hansen- Target, Kmart, Walmart, CVS, Rite Aid, Walgreens
OPI- Ulta, local beauty supply stores
Color Club- transdesign.com, head2toebeauty.com, Ross

(song doesn't start until about 00:45) This song is beautifully and silkily creepy.  It grew on me so much as I let the tones and rhythms wash over me.  Sooo relaxing and sexy at the same time :)

On Safari

When I got this L'oreal color The Perfect Trench a while back I knew I needed to do something animalistic with it- like the great huntress meets her prey :)  Here's what I came up with.

The colors I used for this look are L'oreal The Perfect Trench as the base, Milani Black Swift and White on the Spot, and Orly High on Hope.

Hope you're having a great start to your long weekend.

Movie and a Mani: Parental Guidance

What's Up? It's Thursday- It's Movie Time.  Today I'm going to be reviewing the film Parental Guidance.  I remember when this came out in the theater quite a while ago I said to my bestie, eh- I don't know about that one.... but- guess what?? I loved it!  Yay!  Here's a little snap from the film.

Cast
So- lots of great casting here, headed up by Billy Crystal, Bette Midler, Marissa Tomei, and Tom Everett Scott (That Thing You Do cutie).  For me, sometimes Billy Crystal in a movie means I don't really wanna see it- and that was the case when I first saw this movie out.  Even with Bette and Marissa in it, whom I both love, sometimes I don't always appreciate Billy Crystal's humor.  Such was the case for about the first 30 minutes of this movie, and I felt like I really wasn't going to give this movie such a great review.  However things definitely picked up, aided by the three kiddos in the movie- Bailee Madison(perfection in Just Go With It), Joshua Rush, Kyle Harrison Breitkopf.

Overview
This movie is about re-connection and family in a nutshell.  Basically there's and cute little family of five, making their way day-by-day as we all do, and suddenly Dad and Mom need to go away on a trip for Dad's work- so they call in Grandma and Grandpa to help them out.  Mom hasn't been away since her youngest was born pretty much (who's now 5) and has to decide which is more important: supporting her husband and his dreams completely, and making absolutely sure her kids are "ok" by not leaving them with Grandma and Grandpa whom she feels are basically screw-ups.  So the whole movie revolves around what's going to happen when Mom lets go of control and Grandma and Grandpa try to become reconnected with their kids and grand kids whom they've grown apart from due to distance and personal issues.

Manicure
This look was inspired by a couple of my favorite scenes from the film where things really start to go haywire and the whole family is forced to adjust to make room for each other in their lives- which is sometimes hard to do- but as this movie proves- is ultimately rewarding.

This splatter technique utilizes five bright colors and some straws- which you use to blow short puffs of air and paint onto each nail.  Clean-up for this nail art is crazysauce which is why my cuticle areas are lookin cray cuz I had to use to much acetone to get all of the extra paint off :)  But I'm still glad I tried it...all the clean-up kinda went right along with the theme of the movie.  The colors I used in this design are China Glaze White on White as the base and Sinful Colors Sail La Vie, Anchors Away, Cross My Heart, and Avon Divine Lime for the splatter.

Additional Review
"The movie started out fairly slow during the background portion, which took approximately 20 minutes or so.  However, once past that initial background buildup it actually became a quite enjoyable film.  It made me laugh and I thoroughly enjoyed the interactions between Bette Midler and Billy Crystal.  Billy Crystal's character seemed like the fairly typical new parent/grandparent, lost at every turn.  In the end, this heart-warming tale of a family coming together was a very enjoyable film.  3.8 out of 5 stars." -The Tdawg

Conclusion
While this film isn't getting stellar reviews, I think that's because the beginning of this film is kinda sleepy and off-putting because of it.  Once the kids really get riled up and interactions between all the characters start taking on deeper meanings, this movie can really be seen for it's truth, which is a tale about love, forgiveness, acceptance, and family.  I thought it was heart-warming and definitely worth it.  It's great for the whole family- no worries there.  I recommend this film, just make sure to get past the first half hour :)

Weekly Wrap-Up: 5/22/2013

Happy Wednesday family and friends!  The following post holds lots of photo goodies for you of what we've been up to this week.  Let's start things off with a picture that sums up pretty well how things went this week.

So we have quite a character developing in this young lady.

Thanks for the bra, Grandma, but I think I need a different size.

Finally letting Mommy put some ties in her hair.

And then promptly taking them right out again.

Practicing her parkour

Gettin' her nom on.

If only you had a spoon, sis, you might have more luck. *wink*

Whatevs, this is how you take care of bidness.

Ooh...cold.

More studies in the science of fine dining and the proper form of attack during victual consumption.

*Note technique

Somebody loooves being girly and insists on putting on everything she sees mommy put on from shoes, to headbands, to chap-stick.

Now, don't go thinkin' you weren't going to see how the two oldest rascals were doing this week.

Practicing the art of saying "cheese."

Ahem...

 Calvin Klein here we come.

Ok, in this picture he is the spitting image of his father, couldn't be more so.

Wait, I take that back.  In this picture he is the spitting image of his father. :)

Gettin' their snuggle on.

Finally Mom finds some peace.

I thought somebody was barbequin', barbequin', barbequin'... erm someone confirm for me- that Miss Thang and Daddy have the exact same expression on their faces... Ooh that was some good eats.

Lastly, the super cuties above got me a great big lovely haul from head2toebeauty for Mother's Day and that came in the mail on Monday and I had so much fun opening each one.  They are all my precious.  Oh, my oldest child said to me the other day.  "Hey Mom, you know that show called Buried Alive or something?"  "Yes son, it's called Hoarding: Buried Alive."  "What are people called in that show?"  "Hoarders"  "Well Mom, you're a nail polish Hoader."  "Too true child...too true."

Here's some more bottle shots.  Sorry about the lighting, I didn't have my speeecial lights plugged in for these.

If you want to know the names of all these here little gems, just holla at me.

Well that's about it.  I guess that covers a little more than a week, but hey, ain't nobody got time for that. :)  Sorry about my humor.  I find myself hilarious and I know that doesn't always prove to be the general consensus ;)

Anywho, that's our week in pictures!
