10 Most-Loved Orange Polishes

Hello there fellow polish-lovers!  Continuing this series- I have my 10 most-loved orange polishes.  We've done red http://glimpsesofthemoon.blogspot.com/2014/01/10-most-loved-red-polishes.html and we've done pinks http://glimpsesofthemoon.blogspot.com/2014/01/10-most-loved-pink-polishes.html and we're moving on to orange.  I have 10 oranges picked out for you today that I find especially nice.  If you want to watch the video of live application of each polish, simply watch that here

Or you can go to my youtube channel and find it there, along with many other videos: http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCbls8_c-01u9XbpKvL7b2Sw/videos

Here are the swatches for you of each of the polishes I featured in the video:

Avon Mandarin Magic is a bright tangerine with gold/green shimmer.  Simply radiant and easy to apply in two coats, this one is a definite stand out, even among close dupes.  I thought this brand did a great job with their collections this last year and hopefully 2014 has the same effort on their part because they usually have an above-par formula.

China Glaze Mimosas Before Manis is a peach polish with delicious shimmer.  This is so complimentary and can be worn in any occasion.  Definitely classed among the non-obnoxious oranges, this two-coater is creamy and really something special.

Color Club Sparkle and Soar is very similar to Mandarin Magic, but as you can see, it is more golden due to it being more densely shimmered.  This is two coats and I can't help but stare at it :)

Amour '72 Convertible Stingray is representing for the paler, more yellow-based orange creams out there. This one doesn't have the best formula, but the color is so interesting.  This may not be everyone's cup of tea but there was something so unexpected about this one once I got it on my nails, that I really took to it.  As with the rest of these swatches, this is two coats.

Maybelline Coral Glow is so divine.  Coral is definitely my favorite way to do orange, and this one has very fine golden shimmer in it that it really does look like its glowing.  You can catch a glimpse of the shimmer there in the bottle as it translates on the nail in person.  So, so beautiful, and easy to apply in two coats.

OPI A Woman's Prague-ative is such a stand-out.  OPI was not shy of going way into orange territory with this one and on the first coat it's a tad unimpressive, but once you have that base layer on, the second coat makes this shade really burn with intensity.  Impeccable formula and fabulous brush makes this polish ahead of the game.

Another fabulous orange from OPI, we have Deutch You Want Me Baby.  Completely different from her sister above, this one is deeper, and somehow more dangerous.  It looks like it's going to sting you and then you'll burn from its venom.  I really love this burnt red/orange- another ball hit out of the park.

What would a top 10 orange post be without some fabulous neon orange polishes, and here is the first- Savina Orange Blast.  This neon is so stupendous- you don't need to base it with a layer or two of white polish, it stands on its own two feet and simply sears through everything.  If you want megawatt pow- go with this little lady!

Zoya Dhara is our textured polish representative.  I just love how Zoya does their textured polish, so clean and fresh, and an orange with gold shimmer is simply stunning.  Love it- and again- this is two coats.

Lastly we have Spoiled Jail Bait which made it to the top because it is truly an impressive neon, it is super budget friendly(under two bucks) and the color and name are so spot on.  This is pictured at two coats over one coat of white polish to make the color pop and not be able to see the nail line, but on its own it is powerful as well, as you can see in the live application in the video above.  Love this one- it's a no-brainer.

There you have it- if I'm going to wear orange polish, it's probably going to be one of these 10.  I hope you enjoyed my pics and tell me what your favorite orange polish is so I can check it out!

Sinful Colors Oh My Mod Swatches and Possible Dupes

Hey, sup sup?  I have another Sinful Colors collection swatchfest for you today.  I picked up this collection at the same time as picking up the Mod in Bloom that I reviewed  last week that you can find here: http://glimpsesofthemoon.blogspot.com/2014/01/sinful-colors-mod-in-bloom-swatches-and.html

Today's swatches come from the Oh My Mod collection which is a grouping of bold shades that run the whole rainbow.  Let's get started.
First off we have this bright blue Jolt which I swatched in just one coat.  A lot of the colors in this bunch were really nice in one coat.  This is a really great basic blue-leaning-green and some dupes in my collection for this one are Bongo That's How We Roll, China Glaze Sunday Funday is rather close, NYC Water Street Blue, Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Brisk Blue, a nd I didn't have anything close within the Sinful Colors polishes, so that's great.

Next is this gorgeous Energetic Red.  Aptly-named, right?  Just uber-bright and packs a punch.  It's somewhat pink/coral leaning, and this is two coats.  Sorry for the slightly blurry photo and as you can see this swatch was taken when my nails were a different length than the rest...That is because this polish was released with another collection last year so it's an older swatch.  Some dupes I found were Kleancolor Neon Fuchsia, Sation Peppermint Pedi, and Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Sonic Boom is rather close.

This beauty is Hip to Be Square.  It's a bright periwinkle blue that I have swatched here at two coats.  This polish is so lovely, but unfortunately had one of the worse formulas for me.  However, if you love shades like this, you'll be willing to look past the streakiness.  This shade is surprisingly close to Sinful Colors Sail la Vie, which was my top blue polish of 2013, so I of course love this shade, but why make such a close dupe?  It's just a tad lighter and brighter, but the difference is minimal.  Other dupes are Essie Bikini so Teeny(but without the shimmer and the horrible application), and Ulta Bam-blue-zled is kinda close, but not as bright.

This little lady is Chick Chick which is very creamy and sunny. This was opaque in two coats, and applied surprisingly well for a yellow polish.  Don't get me wrong, it wasn't a cake walk, but it was acceptable.  Let's see...dupes: I guess Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in Butterscotch is the closest thing I have to Chick Chick, but a little darker, so not quite.  Over all, this one's pretty unique in my collection.

Who doesn't love a really great orange cream?  This is Feel the Vibe and she is swatched at two coats.  I really love that they included this bold orange in this collection.  It wouldn't be complete without it.  Probably the closest matches I have to it are L'oreal Boozy Bruch(but it's just a tad darker), and then Sally Hansen X-treme Wear Sun Kissed(which is just a bit lighter).  Also, Wet n Wild Megalast Club Havana is somewhat similar, but none of these three is right on the money.  I'd say this one would be pretty singular in your collection if you picked it up.

Here is Beatnick which is a teal/turquoise with shimmer.  Super creamy and nice and the shimmer just adds that little something extra special.  This is two coats and let me see if I can find any dupes... China Glaze Custom Kicks, China Glaze Turned Up Turquoise(which dries matte), Color Club Abyss, Kleancolor Catch Me, Misa The Grass is Green on My Side(even has shimmer), Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Kiwi Bikini, and Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Jazzy Jade.  So, not a super original shade, but everyone loves this color so much, they each have their own take on it.  Still one worth picking up I'd say.

Boom Boom is a gorgeous blue-based pink fuchsia.  This color is everywhere, but is so perfect for this collection of bold Spring shades.  This is two coats and applied nice and easily.  Boom Boom is not unique to this collection, but can be found in their core polishes.  Some dupes: Sally Hansen Fuchsia Power, Sation Queenie in a Bottle, Sinful Colors Outrageous, Sinful Colors Sugar n Spice, and Sinful Colors Pink Poppys from the Mod in Bloom release.  Lots of fuchsia polishes out there which I usually don't pick up, but this one does have a nice formula, so it's worth your two bucks.

The last shade is Go Go Boots which was another one-coater.  It's purple, so of course I love it.  A dusty violet shade, this is bold and rounds out the collection nicely.  Some possible dupes are Color Club In the Limelight(a little lighter), L'oreal Paparazzi Pleaser(a little darker), Misa Total Eclipse of the Heart, Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure Good to Grape, Sation Super-Nailtural Powers, and Spoiled 2 Weeks Sober- so this color has definitely been done as well :)

I hope you enjoyed this review with possible dupes.  How is your day going?  Leave me a comment and tell me something you were grateful for today!  I'll see you back tomorrow.

Lace Nail Art Tutorial

Hey! It's Tuesday so it's time for another tutorial.  Today's technique- romantic lace.  Are you looking for something festive to wear for this Valentine's Day but don't want to go super traditional?  A nice lace accent nail would do just the trick.

One of the looks I've received the most requests for a tutorial on is how to do a lace, such as in this half moon:

For today's video walkthrough, I switched it up a little bit and I had the lacing walking across the middle of the nail in a bit of a different pattern.  Here's the look:

As you can see, one nail features a pattern that extends and keeps building upon itself, and the rest keep it more simple.  If you want to check out the video walkthrough where I explain everything I did you can just click on the video above, or go to my youtube channel for today's video and more nail art/polish lover/addict goodies here: http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCbls8_c-01u9XbpKvL7b2Sw/videos

I hope you're having a great day and you pull out your paints and get creative!! I'll see you back tomorrow!

Love is in the Air

Love doesn't grow on trees....or does it?  Maybe today it does.  Let's take a look:

This base polish is Pure Ice Laven-dare and it seemed so airy and light that it might be perfect for little hearts floating through the air.  Next was to decide where they were blowing from so it had to be a tree of hearts. Here is Laven-dare at two coats.  What a perfect pale purple.  So sweet and refreshing.

There's my NOTD- hope you enjoyed it and I'll see you back tomorrow :)

Queen of Hearts

Yesterday was a swatchfest so today's my first day of nail art in February and it's gotta be a Valentine mani. Here's the look:

So I started out with the base polish Color Club Look Book which is a really gorgeous red cream that applies nicely in two coats.  Next, get some black acrylic and set to work.  This ended up looking very Queen of Hearts from Alice in Wonderland.  A little dark and twisty manicure for your valentine :)  Here is Look Book at two coats on its own:

There you have it.  Are you getting in the mood?  Besides that, the first month of 2014 is already behind us, can you believe it?? Have a great day and I'll see you back tomorrow.

Saturday Random Swatchfest 2/1/2014

Happy Saturday polish lovers!!  It's time to look at 10 more polishes from my swatched folder.  These are all little ladies that haven't had a chance to be featured on my blog yet, and today's the day for them!
Let's get started:
Pure Ice All Nighter is a lovely wine, burgundy lustre shine polish.  This is a really great one from this brand and its nearly a one-coater.  I really like this color and I think it's quite attractive.  A

Barielle Jewlie Box is your basic pale pink/purple cream.  This was fine at two coats, and its not a shade I really love to wear all the time, but it has its place and it's a good one to grab because the formula was no nonsense.  I think I found this one at Marshalls' bargain polish bin for a couple bucks.  A

Misa Bop Til You Drop is my orange shade of the day.  I don't have many orange polishes to show usually(yellows either) but this one is a deeper coral that I'm gonna count as orange.  As you can see in the bottle, it has subtle shimmer but it doesn't show up on the nail very well.  That being said, I did really like this polish.  The formula was great and with the subtle shimmer, it makes the polish look like it's shining from within.  This is two coats.  A

Fingerpaints Key to My Art is a gold metallic that seems to lean a little green, which I actually didn't like that much on my skin.  I think they're getting rid of this shade because it was put on clearance along with a bunch of others this last Winter.  I can understand why.  There are much more attractive gold metallics.  This is two coats.  B-

Julep Kendra is a deep forest green with shimmer and I really only felt ok about this polish.  I got this one in I think my very last subscription box from Julep and I had received enough in a row that I was underwhelmed with, that for the price point I decided it wasn't worth it.  I think what it is, is I have other deep greens that are nicer.  So in comparison, I don't think I'll be reaching for this one.  This is two coats.  B

Sally Hansen Smooth and Perfect Air is just your very palest blue that you can find.  This is three coats for this level of opacity which I don't love, but I think the look of the polish is really delicate and sweet.  Even though it's more work, I do really enjoy it.  A-

Sinful Colors Purple Heart is a polish they released this Christmas time with a bunch of other platinum foil/metallics in multiple shades.  I thought this one was particularly gorgeous(well duh, it's purple) and it was nearly a one-coater.  I'm not sure you can still find this one in stores, but I'm sure they'll repromote it at some point.  A

Nicole by OPI- A Phil's Paradise is a really different kind of silver metallic, kind of a chrome look to it- kind of gritty to me.  It's not really my favorite silver shade but it is unique and fun.  I picked this one up as they were clearanced out of Kmart, otherwise I would probably have skipped this bottle.  A

Orly Digital Glitter is so interesting!  Look at all those flakies!  The nice thing is that it's not a topper so you're getting this full coverage in two coats.  What is this- violet, red, and gold flakes of glitter in there?  So awesome.  Love it!  A

Revlon Colorstay Rainforest is my A+ polish of the week.  This gives a great contrast to Julep Kendra because it's an example of the deep forest green shimmers that I do really enjoy.  This line from Revlon is their pricier one, but they are putting some on 75% clearance right now and I'm not sure why because all the ones I've picked up have been nice.  I don't think they're really worth the nearly 10 dollar price point, but when they're on clearance I find them to be great.  I love the jam-packed yellow green shimmer in this baby. Just divine at two coats.

That's it- 10 random pics from my swatched folder.  These little beauties finally got their time to shine :) Which was your favorite?  What have you been rockin' on your nails this week?  See you back tomorrow!
