10 Most-Loved Yellow and Gold Polishes

Hi ya'll!  It's time for some more polish favs- today's installment is yellow and gold polishes.  Do you ever wear these shades?  I love em even though they may not always be appropriate for work or what have you, but they can really brighten up your day.  Here is the video with live application of my most loved polishes in this category and then below that you will find picture swatches of each polish.

My first gold polish choice is this foil from Color Club called Winter Affair.  This is a scented polish and was nearly a one-coater.  This looks stunning on the nails and is a very light shade of gold that it's close to looking silver sometimes.  This one is smooth and easy to apply, and you're looking at two coats.

Here we have a recently released polish, China Glaze Mingle With Kringle.  Super different from the last gold metallic, as this one is more pigmented and has some deeper gold in there.  This is two coats as well, as as with the Color Club polish, requires quite a bit to cleanup because they are so dense with shimmer.

This lovely duochrome is Sally Hansen Lustre Shine in Firefly.  This does shift green and blue in the bottle, but on the nail it looks mostly like a rose-gold to me.  Every polish in this small release is divine and this one is no different.  Smooth and easy in two coats.

Hello, deep and delicious gilded gold, Sephora by OPI Rumba Romance.  Wow this one is so special and I found this one per usual in a clearance section of Marshalls.  You're looking at two coats and it is the last of my gold polishes in this top 10 but it is certainly not the least!

My pick for pale yellow polishes is Ulta Cream of the Crop.  First of all I love the name, but I just think it looks very nice.  Still sheerer than I'd like at two coats, but for a pale yellow I think it did a fine job.  You might want to go three coats on this one, but it was smooth and easy to apply.

This yellow crelly with holographic pink shimmer packed throughout is Orly Melodious Utopia.  This one is also a bit sheer at two coats, but it really has that something special.  You could maybe layer this one over a basic yellow polish, or even white.  I love how unique this is.

Here is Fingerpaints Art Nouv Yellow, repping for the middle-of-the-road yellows.  The only thing different about this one is it has a bit of frost which is hard to pick up on a yellow polish, but it's there.  It gives this polish a little bit of pizazz and this is two coats over one coat of white I think, but in the video above I applied it on its own, so you can see what that looks like there.

Really unique, and when I saw this little lady on the sale rack she called out to me.  It's Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in Butterscotch.  First off, this line has never disappointed in the formula department, ever- so that was a good bet.  Secondly- the color is just so intriguing.  If not butterscotch, this could aptly be named Mustard but I'm guessing the brand was going for a bit more delectable of a name. :) This was runner-up for my number one fav yellow polish.

I couldn't show you my top yellows without throwing a neon in there.  This is Kleancolor Funky Yellow and this looks bright at two coats, but if you put these two coats over one coat of white cream polish...it's out of this world.  This polish is a slow dryer so watch out.

Rounding out the top 10 I give you this yellow cream from Cosmetic Arts.  This is a no-name polish, so I gave it the name Sunflower just for my own purposes.  Sunflower is pretty-much a one-coater which is almost unheard of for a yellow polish and the formula is fab.  Applies easily and I originally purchased mine at Ross, but I haven't seen any there for quite sometime.  I hope you are able to find these online if you're interested in giving Sunflower(non-official name) a go.

And that's it!  Thanks for stopping by today.  I hope you found something you like, and let me know in the comments below what your favorite yellow polish is.  Don't forget to watch the live application video and give it a thumbs up if you like live application swatching.  Have a fabulous day and I'll see you back tomorrow!

Weekly Wrap-Up 2/12/2014

Hey my party people.  How's everybody today.  Today we're having a gorgeous desert winter day where it's crisp and sunny at the same time.  The kids are happily at school and as for myself and little miss fashionista, we are lovin' our girls time.  Nothing too crazy or exciting going on at our house this week.  My Mr. was given the privilege of working two days out of the week here in town, starting this week, and so that means at least two days out of the week he doesn't have to spend 4-5 hours in the car.  Yay!  He's such a good man and takes such good care of his family :)

I just have a short roll of photos to share with you today, but hopefully something in here will brighten your day.
Kicking things off in typical Moon Family style, this happened...

And she didn't feel particularly happy about it after the fact.

But sad face never stay around that long.  Ever the trendsetter, Bee thought it was pretty cool to wear a bra this way and thinks everyone else should do the same.

She also has strong feelings concerning how tights should be worn, and kept them on this way for the greater part of Monday morning.  (this is two pairs of tights, one on each foot- just in case you were wanting to keep up on the latest fads)

We tried to put them on correctly and discovered these were her baby tights.  This little lady is growin' like a weed.

Cheese!

Speaking of growing like a weed, the kids are all needing the next size up so I had to do a little clothes shopping this week, and this little gem made it's way home with me!

Bear was busy busy busy reading all week.  He read a couple small books for fun, and then I said, "why don't you read the first Harry Potter and we'll go to the Lego Movie after you've finished it.  Two days later, he was done.  As with most things, all you gotta do is find the right motivation :)  Besides reading he was playing the supermarket monopoly game.

Creating found art

Which Bug promptly walked right over

But not before Mr. Bear made sure I got a picture of him picking his creation's nose.

Little Bug didn't make much of an appearance this week, it takes a lot to get him to stand in front of the camera before he runs away, but his brother did draw this stellar portrait of him, demonstrating both the subject's fervor and technique when eating what he calls "noonols" and the artist's feelings about how his brother eats said "noonols."

And that's it!  Our week in a nutshell.  I hope you enjoyed and you feel closer to us already :)  Till next Wednesday, that's a wrap!  XOXO from us to you!

Tuesday Tutorial: Ikat Design

Hey peeps!  It's the week of Valentine's Day so I've got a sweetheart mani for you today.  It's featuring an Ikat design, so if you're not interested in finding something to wear for the weekend, well you can use the technique any other time too.  This tutorial was requested by Vannah- what's up girl?- and I thought it would work well themed for V-Day because it's non-traditional and funky which are two things I like very much. Here's the video tutorial where I walk you through what you need to do:

And here's the finished look:

I used China Glaze Fuchsia Fanatic and Sweet Hook, Sinful Colors Simply Silver, and Wet n Wild French White to create this look, but you can use whatever polishes you have on hand that tickle your fancy.

Here is Fuchsia Fanatic on its own at one coat, gotta love that!  This polish is from the Spring 2012 Electropop Collection.

And that's it!  Make sure you check out the video tutorial and subscribe for more videos from me every week.  Lots of love to all of you, my valentines.  I hope you have a great day and I'll see you back tomorrow. :)

DIY Shattered

Welcome to another week.  It's Monday, but the kids have today off of school so it still feels like the weekend to me.  I have a look for you today that I thought kinda looked like I was wearing a shattered or shredded top coat just a bit.  I'm not the biggest fan of that kind of topper, so I was happy to find a way to do it easily by hand.  Here's the look:

As you can see, this effect is achieved by creating lines, but not connecting them in a cracked or shattered organization so you can see the base color peeking through.  I thought this worked especially well because the base was a somewhat textured polish and the acrylic paint is not so the contrast between the two really makes it pop.  I used a couple shades of pink for the line work to make it more dimensional.  What do you think? Am I imagining that it looks shattered? lol  It's highly possible ;)

The base polish is this silvered gold texture by Color Club called Apollo Star.  This is two coats, and it's divine.

That's it!  Your quick NOTD fix, and you're off to attend to the rest of your day.  So glad we could share some of our day together today.  Have a great one and I'll see you back tomorrow!

The River Runs Through It

Good day lovelies.  How are you today?  I have a look today inspired by nature again.  At this time of year when I was a kid up in Northern California, when we'd get a lot of rain day after day the rivers would start overflowing and rushing fast everywhere you looked.  I wanted to paint something like that on my nails and here's the result:

Interesting take on a french tip ;)  Actually that's not what it's meant to be, but I guess you could pass it off that way.  Here is the base polish- Color Club Silver Lake- at two coats on its own:
I ended up really liking this polish for its off-white qualities.  It's a great alternative to wearing a basic white and it applied nice and evenly in two coats.  That's it for today, short and simple :)  Hope you're having a great day!  I'll see you back tomorrow polish lovers!

Saturday Random Swatchfest 2/8/2014

Howdy polish fanatics!  Saturday means random swatching and I'm late getting this up because I've been running errand all day.  Let us make haste!

Confetti Dressed to the 9's is my random red polish choice for today.  It really does have a gold of gold in there, as you can see in the bottle, so this ends up looking like an antique red.  You know, I don't care for this brand a whole lot- especially compared to other great ones at the drug store, but this one was ok.  Not something I'd tell you to rush out and get, that's for sure.  I say B+

Sally Hansen Salon Nail Lacquer Berry Sweet is one of my long-time-polish-buddies.  She's been with me for many years- back from the days when I wasn't a polish fiend.  She's the shade of polish that I don't usually gravitate to because I'm much more into non-conventional polish colors now, but when I do want an old standard- I turn to this little chicky.  I think this is a discontinued line of Sally polishes- I would say it probably turned into the Complete Salon Manicure which makes the most sense formula-wise.  Meaning...I'm not sure you'll ever find this exact polish, but it was in my swatched folder so I thought I'd share it.  P.S....10 years later and this bottle of polish is still applying like a champ.  A

Revlon Colorstay Sunburst was in the clearance bin at Big Lots- actually they have a number of the Colorstay polishes there.  This super squishy orange jelly is shown here at three coats.  Unfortunately it's still sheer, but that's what happens with jellies.  This color is so unique in my collection; I rather like the shade, and when you find it for under a couple bucks, that never hurts either.  B

Color Club Pearl District is a gilded gold metallic that applied nicely in two coats.  Among many many gold polishes out there, this one doesn't really stand out that much, except for the fact that it's antique looking.  The formula was ok and honestly I was expecting to like it more than I did...  Overall, it was just ok.  B

Sally Hansen Hard as Nails Limestone is a particularly fabulous lime green cream.  You can pick up this little baby for a buck at drug stores and look at how it packs a punch!  This applied nicely and I always love a great bargain.  This isn't a color I'd wear every day, but it fits in its niche nicely.  A

Color Club Williamsburg is a gorgeous deep blue with dense shimmer and flakies.  I have to admit, I didn't wear this one long because I hadn't doubled-up my base coat when I originally swatched it and I was worried it would stain, but when I removed it, it really didn't seem that bad.  I'm totally in love with this color.  You're looking at two effortless coats.  A

China Glaze Rendezvous With You is one of the few polishes I picked up from the Autumn Nights Collection.  I love this mix of blackened-plum,silver, and taupe.  This is two coats, and it applied without any issues.  Definitely my favorite from that collection.  A

Pure Ice Taupe Drawer is one of my very favorite nude polishes.  It's under two bucks at Walmart and this is two easy coats- it's totally complimentary on and it's just really refreshing.  It's more of a peachy-nude to me.  I recommend this one if you're looking for a new nude polish.  A

Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Frazzle Dazzle is a new glitter polish of theirs and honestly I didn't really care for this one that much :(  It was kind of a bummer formula(gloopy) and this is two coats and I still didn't get very much product in my opinion.  It's made up of copper, gold, and black hexes, bar, and micro glitters.  I had high hopes for this little lady, and I always like to give this Sally line a try because she's so budget-friendly.  Oh well.  C

Sinful Colors Lavender is my draft for A+ polish of the week.  Such a gorgeous grayed-out blurple.  I'm so overcome by shades like this.  This brand retails for under two bucks at your drug stores and they really do a great job with formula in general.  I think this one's in their core line, so you should be able to find this one at any time.  Happy Hunting!

That's it- 10 more polishes and we have a wrap!  I hope you're having a swell weekend and I'll see you back tomorrow.  Don't forget to tell me which one was your favorite :)

Let the Sun Shine

Is anyone out there having the Winter blues?  The groundhog says six more weeks of Winter...which is usually about the time we're wishing Winter was over.  We happen to live in the desert, so I haven't been personally affected by these blues, but I know all over the country people are having day after day of Winter storms and so I'm bringing you a little warmth today.  I hope this helps to beat away those blues and help you to remember that the sun will be back soon.

I started out with Revlon 24K which is just a really smooth and luxe-looking gold that applied nicely in two coats.  Next, using black acrylic paint, I added some tribal sun imagery, keeping things pretty basic and symbolic.  Here is 24K at two coats on its own:

Hope you have a great day, whatever the weather is like in your neck of the woods.  Love to you, and I'll see you back tomorrow!
