Saturday Random Swatchfest 1/4/2014

Hey!  First Random Swatchfest of 2014!  Let's get started and we'll see if we can find something you like.

Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Racey Rouge is a one coater raspberry red cream.  This is definitely a go-to blue-toned red and as always- I recommend this brand to anyone who hasn't tried it because they are almost always one-coaters the only thing is they're not the least expensive brand in the drugstore, but if you find them on sale, jump on it :) A

China Glaze Something Sweet is a pale cotton candy pink cream.  This was two coats and it was a little patchy so you have to work with it a little bit.  This polish can be found in their Up and Away collection which is full of beautiful pastel shades.  A-

Sinful Colors Sunburnt is a bright orange red cream.  I think this one was really flattering on the skin.  I'm not really all about orange; it might be my least favorite color if I even had one, but this was really lovely.  This is two coats and you can get it for under two bucks at your Walgreens or Walmart.  A.

Bonita Pearl is a frost, pearl white and it is really luminescent, but I have to say I don't really care for it that much.  I think one of my major issues is that this is a frost and still not opaque in two coats.  It just seems like it's mostly water in there...I have reviewed this brand on my swatchfest Saturday before and I didn't care for it then and that hasn't changed.  This is a brand you can find really inexpensively at places like Ross and my opinion after trying two or three is that these polishes are probably great first polishes for your tween that isn't as manicure-obsessed as you or me, but the quality isn't high enough to waste your time on them if you want a nice clean-looking manicure.  I will probably purge all of these from my collection.  C

Avon Serene is another fabulous polish from their regular line of polishes.  I'm not gonna lie- I love Avon polishes.  I think they always have great formulas(except for their top speed dry line) and they come out with lovely, flattering shades.  This is two coats but I could have gotten away with one.  I love this dusty sea green.  A

Nicole by OPI Stand by Your Manny was so appealing to me in the bottle, but as you can see- two coats is just not cutting it for this polish, which is such a shame.  I still love it though and I'm willing to layer it to still be able to wear this beautiful periwinkle with finely-milled silver shimmer.  This is from the Modern Family collection, as you can see, which I think has been put on clearance at most drug stores because they're clearing out for more polishes.  I rate a B because while I love it, there are more successful shades in this collection.

Misa Total Eclipse of the Heart is so beautiful.  A nice medium-to deep grape cream which was nearly opaque in one coat, but I did two just for good measure.  This is pictured without top coats, so as you can see it dries to somewhat of a satin finish.  Sometimes Misa can be a little hit and miss, but lately I've got some real winners from that brand.  Love it.  A

Orly Rage is a cult favorite right now because of its rose gold shade, but I was completely unaware of that when I was picking it up at a buy one get one free sale at Sally's.  This is a really gorgeous metallic which could probably be another one-coater, but this is two.  I don't know- I do think rose gold is lovely but I'm not mad crazy for it like most are right now.  What do you think?  A

Pure Ice Watch Me Go is a really fine turquoise/blue/green glitter in a clear base.  I didn't really end up caring for this one that much.  The colors are stunning, but the way it comes off on the nail is just kinda boring and I think its because the glitters are so fine that it turns out to be nothing special.  You can always find this brand at Walmart.  This is two coats.  B

For my polish of the week, I give you Revlon Sugar Plum which is this ultra delicious plum raspberry with gold throughout.  Wow this one is a major stunner and I'm pretty sure I found it on clearance at one drug store or another because I don't pick up Revlon polishes unless they're on clearance.  This baby was a sweet find.  First of all this plum/berry shade is so divine on its own, but with all the gold shimmer to flatter it even more, just perfect.  This is two coats.  A+

There you have it, the first swatchfest of the new year, with much more to come.  This year is going to be even more fabulous than the last.  I'm going to keep up posting nail art and reviews for you and I want to post more nail art videos to Youtube so look out for that.  Have a great day and I'll see you back tomorrow!
